Graceful Threads is a home-based business committed to providing families with custom made clothing at a reasonable cost. I have been in business since 2007 and I have enjoyed getting to know so many long term clients over the years. I am honored to make what we can call "slow clothing" in a true artisan fashion. Garments are hand cut and sewn based on your desired size and choice of fabric. Services include simple alterations that tailor a garment especially for you. Garments include simple, classic and contemporary designs as well as vintage reproductions which have been drawn from a variety of historic and modern sources. No two garments will be exactly alike and I hope that you will enjoy your one of a kind pieces.

I have over 500 fabrics for you to choose from, all sourced from US owned fabric companies. These include classic cottons of quilt shop quality, organic cottons, denim, linen and linen blends, chambray, corduroy, twill, pique  and the hard to find Tropical Breeze poly/cotton. Garments are carefully sewn and edges are finished. Our poly/cotton Tropical Breeze by the yard is available for purchase at just barely over our wholesale cost. I love that purchasing custom made garments often sparks a desire to learn how to sew and enjoy providing this fabric as inexpensively as possible to the sewing community.

I do not pre-wash fabric. Please allow for approximately 1 inch shrinkage per yard on our 100% cotton fabrics. Please measure carefully and let me know if you have questions after looking at the size charts. Almost all disappointments can be avoided by ordering the right size.

I recommend washing our cottons in cool or warm water. Delicate cycle is recommended by the manufacturers but in our house, they are usually washed on regular cycle. Hang to dry or tumble dry low. I do not recommend hanging any of our clothing in direct, harsh sunlight. Quilting cottons and yarn dyed cottons may begin to fade. Please see specific instructions for washing our Linen blends.

Orders can be placed online through the cart or by email and when I am available, by phone. You may also process your order through the website but pay by check. I welcome your questions anytime. Please call the number below or for the quickest service, send an email using the contact form at the top of the page. Messages and emails placed on weekends will be answered on Mondays. For those who are calling, I am located in the Eastern Time Zone and accept business calls Monday through Friday between 10am and 4pm. Please kindly leave a message if I am not available and I will return your call as soon as possible.

Guarantee:

I want you to be pleased with your purchase and if this is your first time ordering I would recommend purchasing only one of a specific design to make sure you like the fit/style before ordering more. Most of my regular customers find the styles that work best for themselves and their children and then stock up in different fabric choices. Because my clothing is carefully custom-made specifically for you in your choice of size and fabric, I do not take returns except in very special circumstances. Please measure carefully before ordering, refer to the size charts and don't be shy about writing or calling with questions. Because each customer likes a certain fit, I welcome communication if you are ever unsure about what size to order. Most ladies' items ask for a bust and waist measurement. This is very helpful information for me as it allows me to tailor a garment just for you. If you need to return an item for alterations, please contact me so that we can discuss your needs. In order to keep prices low, there is a fee for the time spent doing alterations and I do ask the customer to pay for their return shipping. I try very hard to satisfy my clients and will return your e-mail within 24 hours whenever possible.

Turnaround Time:

Processing time for custom orders is dependent on how many there are in line at a given time. The general turnaround time is between 4 and 6 weeks but I often ship sooner. On the left hand side of the screen you will see the present processing time. If needed during our longer turnaround times, rush orders for 1 week, 2 weeks and 4 weeks are available at the top of the page and should be processed when you place your order. There is no need to ask in advance. If I am unable to complete rush orders I will take them temporarily off the website.

Shipping:

All domestic orders over $150 ship free of charge. Orders under $150 pay a flat rate $12 shipping fee. Priority Mail shipping takes between 1-4 days as long as your package is not delayed enroute. International customers pay an approximate amount for 1st Class shipping when the order is placed and may upgrade to Priority Mail if requested. If your order is over the weight limit for 1st class as designated by your country, it will need to be upgraded to Priority Mail. Please be sure to give me an email address that you check regularly so that we can communicate easily. Please also be sure to research possible duty fees ahead of time so that you are not caught off guard. Graceful Threads is not responsible for packages once they have left our hands and are in the USPS system. Priority Mail does have tracking and you will receive an email with your tracking number the day that it ships. Domestic packages are insured up to $100. If you would like additional insurance added to cover your entire order, please just let me know and I can take care of that with you before shipping. International packages can only be insured if sent by Priority Mail. Packages are rarely lost. I've only had 2 go awry in 15 years.

Cancellations and Changes and Returns:

If you need to change something in an existing order you have just placed, please let me know immediately. I completely understand that sometimes you will change your mind on a fabric choice or think of a need after placing your order. Once your order has been processed through the website and written down I plan the fabrics and let you know I have received your order. I do not cancel orders or refund items. I am usually able to accommodate small changes as long as the garment has not yet been cut. Just send an e-mail and I will get back to you ASAP. Thanks for your understanding of the detailed complexity involved in running a made to order business as well as the need to ensure a reasonable financial return on all custom made garments.
