Girl's 1910 Dress Our 1910 dress comes from a pattern by Sense and Sensibility. It was made from pictures of styles worn by girls in the early decades of the 20th century and makes a beautiful everyday or formal occasion dress. This style can be seen earlier than 1900 but with longer sleeves. By the 1930's the bodice remained almost the same but skirt length shortened and were less full to save on fabric. The short sleeves have gathers at the shoulders and the bodice is attached to a waistband which extends around the back of the dress. The full skirt attaches to the bottom of the waistband and buttons do up the back bodice. A long white sash is included with every dress in case you would like to use it for a special occasion. This dress is a little different from anything else in our collection and a nice treat for a special girl. If at all possible, please measure the waist of the child you are purchasing this dress for and include it below. We have not measured the completed dress lengths for all sizes, but they appear to be similar to the lengths found on our size chart page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Square Yoke Prairie Dress in C199-B with Elbow length sleeves Prairie Pinafore
Girl's Pinafore Back of Girl's Pinafore
|
Girl's Prairie Dress and Pinafores Our Prairie Dress closely resembles the dresses worn by pioneer and homesteading girls of the 19th century. High yokes made the dresses fit longer and the easy fit was right for school, work and play. Girls generally had three dresses. Two were for weekday use and one for Sunday and special occasions. Old dresses were either used for chores or were handed down to a younger sister. When they were all worn out, many were cut up and used as patches for quilts. Their dresses would usually have had long sleeves but we wanted to give you some options for comfortable summertime wear. During the week, pioneer girls almost always wore a pinafore over their dresses in order to protect the dress. In winter dresses were made of wool but during much of the year, cotton calicos were the norm. Pinafores were usually made of white or natural colored cotton so that they could be used with any dress. I'm not sure why white was chosen when it would become dirty so quickly, but it does seem that light colored cottons were the most inexpensive. Our Prairie Dress comes with either a square or rounded (curved) yoke, front bodice buttons, elbow length sleeves and a round collar. Long elastic ruffled sleeves are available as an option below. Two pinafores work great with our Prairie Dress. The Prairie Pinafore buttons in the back and has a sweet ruffle at the bottom. The Girls Pinafore is a basic high yoke design which also buttons in the back. Both are loose, full and easy to get on and off. The finished lengths are about 2" shorter than the Prairie Dress and both work equally well with any of our other dresses. Sewn by license from patterns by "The King's Daughters". Meghan's Dress
Meghan's Dress comes in a nice contemporary design for older girls. It is either dressy or casual based on the fabric you choose. Cap raglan sleeves and round neckline are gently gathered with elastic. The empire waist is also finished with elastic for a nice fit. A fun ruffle finishes off the bottom edge. Longer short sleeves and full length sleeves are optional. A nice alternative would be to use a contrast fabric for the bodice/sleeves and bottom hem. For this option, when putting in your fabric choice, please list the bodice/sleeve/hem fabric first and the skirt fabric second and then check the surcharge box below. This approximate finished lengths are noted in the chart below. Dress design licensed from KWIK.SEW Pattern Co., Inc.

Girl's Winter Dress Some of our customers have admitted that dresses are fun and practical in the summer, but fear that their girls may be cold during the winter. Here's a dress designed just for the winter. It is available in any of our warm denim, corduroy, twill, Kona crush or flannel fabrics, found near the bottom of the fabric chart. Made in a simple button front design, the bodice ends at the natural waist. Gathers at the shoulders leave plenty of room to add a thermal shirt or turtleneck. Pair the long skirt with tights, leggings or knee-highs and bloomers. To order, please choose a denim, corduroy or flannel and then find a nice contrast fabric to add some interest. Don't worry, if your choice doesn't work well, we'll be sure to let you know and give you some suggestions. Older girls may also enjoy this dress with the cuffs and collar in the same fabric as the rest of the dress. You may add back ties to pull in the waist if needed. Short sleeves
Short sleeves with optional collar |
After many requests, we finally finished modifying a pattern for a high yoke dress in older girl's sizes. A traditional little girl outfit, this dress matches closely with our Baby Carrie's Dress and is available in sizes 2-12. Short sleeves are finished with a small ruffle and long sleeves with a cuff. The Peter Pan collar is optional. The back closes with a reasonably long zipper. Because of the high yoke and full skirt, this dress fits for a longer time than most and may remind you of the dresses you wore as a child. Sorry, side pockets are not available with this design. We have not worked out all the finished lengths for this style, but they are similar to those found on the size chart. Pattern for smaller sizes used by permission from Primrose Lane. |

Joanna's Dress Here's a new high yoke dress with a round yoke. The skirt hangs from the yoke without gathers and is cut to create a nice swing style skirt. A round collar is included. The short cap sleeves have gathers at the shoulder and are finished with a small hem. The dress buttons all the way down the back. In sizes 6/12/18/24 months the skirts are made with a single piece of fabric. In sizes 3/4/5/6 the skirt will be made with gores in order to have enough fabric to create the swing skirt. Sorry, side pockets are not available with this design. You may choose this dress in one fabric or in a main fabric with a white collar. We are still working on figuring out the finished lengths on all sizes, but it would appear that the finished lengths are a couple inches shorter than our size chart lengths. Pattern used by permission from Bonnie Blue Designs. |

Julia's Play Dress Julia's Play Dress is a loose, fun dress for little girls. The short raglan sleeves are attached to the main part of the dress and the neckline and sleeves are gathered with elastic in casings. A bottom ruffle is particularly sweet in a contrast fabric. The sleeves are pretty in either the main fabric or contrasting fabric. The finished length of this dress is shorter than most of our dresses. Because of the shorter style, we are adding optional matching play shorts to wear under the dress. These are very similar to our split slips but are cut to accommodate the style of this dress. Please see our Coordinating Fabrics page for help choosing fabrics. It is accessible from Fabric Chart. Dress design licensed from KWIK.SEW Pattern Co., Inc. Approximate finished lengths:

April's Dress Loose and carefree, this is one of our favorite playdresses. It's a very sweet design loved by girls. April's Dress has a round neckline and short sleeves. Both the neckline and sleeve ends are gathered with elastic and the dress easily slips over the head. Back ties pull in the waist and a gathered skirt finishes it off. April's Dress is available for girls from six months up to 12 years old. Sewn by permission from a pattern by Portabellopixie. There are three styles for this Dress: Style A has the bodice and sleeves in one fabric with a contrasting skirt. Style B has skirt and sleeves in one fabric with a contrasting bodice. Style C uses one fabric for the whole dress. All three styles turn out very nicely and each has a unique look. Please see our Coordinating Fabrics page (accessible from the Fabric Chart) for help in choosing fabrics that work well together. Approximate finished lengths can be found below. Many families like this dress in a shorter length. Please use the option below to shorten your dress.

Rebecca Dress Created from our own design, this has quickly become one of our most popular summer dresses. While modest, it has a contemporary look. It has a twirly 4-gore skirt which is lightly gathered at the waist, a button front bodice and short sleeves. While this will make great everyday attire, we can dress it up for you by simply adding a white lace collar to the neckline. Please size up if between sizes as we do not carry this dress in a size 3, 5 or 7. We have changed the sleeves from the picture just a little. They are now straight with few or no gathers at the shoulders. We think it looks a little nicer in this style. Approximate finished lengths:

Longer length In PC64-A |
Girl's Plain Amish Dress and Apron Here's the dress that you will find in plain communities across North America. It is very simple with short sleeves, a button front bodice coming to the natural waist and gathered skirt. The skirt allows for plenty of movement, but is not as wide as most of our other skirts. This dress is worn 3-5 inches shorter than the lengths found on our size page and is meant for everyday work, school and play. We can lengthen it if you prefer a longer dress. The plain canning style apron pops over the head without ties and protects the dress from dirt and wear. It comes with two pockets on the front. Traditionally, a plain dress is made with a solid color and has a white or black apron. That said, you are welcome to have us sew this set in any of our fabrics. While simple, this is a nice everyday dress for busy girls and pretty in either a solid or floral. Please size up if between sizes as we do not carry this set in a size 3, 5 or 7. Sewn by permission from a pattern by Friends Patterns. |

A-Line Skirt with Elastic Waist
Close-up of round collar
3/4 length sleeves with elastic waist |
This basic style also zips in the back and comes in elbow length or 3/4 length elastic ruffle sleeves. A small round collar can be added to the neckline. Sizes 1 through 3 have a regular gathered skirt. Sizes 4-14 have an elastic waist. This dress is a little different in that it has a beautiful A-Line skirt which is much slimmer at the top than the bottom. The A-Line skirt along with the elastic waist creates a nice trim look. Back ties may be added at the side seams in sizes 1-3. This is the "Sunday" dress style worn by most young girls in conservative Mennonite circles and is longer than most. We've decided to make a new one in each size based on the original pattern skirt lengths. We will record them as we finish each size. In the meantime, if the size you are ordering does not have a finished length, assume the length on our girl's size chart and add or subtract length using the length option below. One of our favorite dresses, this cute outfit is period correct to about 1850 and represents the type of play dresses that girls wore during that era. The fully lined bodice has empire seams in the back, along with a button closure. The shoulder drops to the back by an inch or so, as dresses did in the 1800's. The sleeves are slightly flared with small puffs at the shoulders. The 4-gore skirt is full and declared "very twirly" by our tester. It comes 1"- 2" shorter than our size chart lengths. Girls of the time wore long pantaloons underneath their dresses, as shown. The pantaloons create a very sweet combination for special occasions or perhaps even climbing trees. Please see our Underclothing page for pantaloons. This dress fits fairly snugly in the bodice. We recommend sizing up one size if you would like some extra room. Girl's Charity Dress For many, the cape dress defines what a modest dress should be. Charity's Cape Dress has a full cape in front and back, a gentle elastic waist and invisible back zipper. The neckline is round and fairly high. It matches our ladies Charity Cape Dress. The skirt is gently gathered at the waist and full at the hem. There are no extra bells and whistles on this dress. It's a simple, practical design and reflects the daily dress of older girls from conservative churches. Available in sizes 12 and14. We have not measured all the finished lengths for this style, but they appear to be similar to those found on the girls size chart. Pattern used by permission by Home-Sew Designing. For those who desire a simple back zipper dress with an elastic waist, we can also make this dress without a cape. Please see the options below. |

Square Yoke Dress This old fashioned style has a high square bodice with long ruffled sleeves. The skirt portion is quite long and is fuller than the Girl's Flannel Dress above. Approximate dress lengths are longer than our other dresses and are shown below. Please be aware that none of our fabric meets federal flame-retardant standards required for children's nightwear. Because these lengths are already longer than our usual dresses and due to the greatly increased cost of fabric, we are not lengthening this garment. Size 14 girls who need a longer length should move up to ladies sizing. Thanks for your understanding. Sewn by license from a pattern by "The King's Daughters".
