Whites, Lights and Naturals

I have arranged here all of our white and extra light fabrics, organized by type. They are primarily used for underclothing, blouses, aprons and pinafores and it can be confusing to understand which ones work best for each kind of garment. I trust you will find the explanations helpful. Note the weights just to see which are better for your desired garment. To compare, one of our regular cottons is about 4oz/square yard.  The pictures are not helpful, as they don't show against the screen. Simply order from the list below. Poly/Cottons: The main difference between the tropical breeze and poplins are weight and drape. The TB is softer and has a nice drape. The poplins are a bit stiffer but also heftier. We like them for blouses as they are more opaque. The others are all nice to try if you want something a bit different.

PC64-A White tropical breeze poly/cotton. 3oz. Good for shirts and underclothing

PC164-A Cream tropical breeze poly/cotton. 3oz. Good for shirts and underclothing

PC37-A White poplin poly/cotton 3.5oz Excellent for shirts and blouses and heavier than the tropical breeze

PC194-B White birds eye pique in dacron/cotton blend. 3oz. Really nice for slips and any other general use

P1-A White 100% polyester. 3 oz. Good for slips for those who prefer all poly content

Batiste: This is the lightest fabric we carry and is mostly used for bloomers, slips, pantaloons in warm weather. If you use them for any other garment you will need to wear something underneath as batiste is not fully opaque. An old fashioned looking white apron also looks great in batiste. 

C73-B White cotton batiste 2.5oz.  Best for underclothing and somewhat sheer

C81-B Nude cotton batiste 2.5oz. A bit darker than cream. Best for underclothing and somewhat sheer

Muslin and Flannel: These are the staples. Use them for slips, bloomers, pinafores etc. The muslins are a good year round weight. Flannel is bought in white, cream or natural and black. I always have either white or cream in stock. Please specify if you have a preference and I'll fill it if I happen to have both.

C12-A  Bright white cotton muslin. 4oz. All purpose underclothing and old fashioned pinafores

C240-A Warm white muslin. 4oz. A very subtle off white. All purpose underclothing and old fashioned pinafores

C33-A Natural, unbleached muslin. 4oz. All purpose underclothing and pinafores

FL6-A White or cream cotton flannel--what we have in stock varies based on availability. Please ask if you have a preference. 4.5oz. Best for winter underclothing

Clothing cottons: The other whites on this page are general use fabrics for blouses and other standard items. I also keep in stock many different cream colored fabrics for making pinafores in order to best match fabrics. Most often I'll simply choose one of these for you when making a dress set. Please just ask if you have any questions. On our organics page, you will also find a few light solids. 

C31-A White solid cotton. 4.3oz. Our all purpose cotton.

C16-B Warm white solid in organic cotton. 4.3 oz. GOTS certified

C300-A Snow/light cream solid cotton. 4.3 oz. Our all purpose cotton

C264-B White pima wale cotton pique. 4.5oz. Lovely raised wale pattern pique. Very nice for shirts/blouses

C269-B White cotton seersucker 3.5oz. Our very favorite fabric for girl's peasant/raglan tops. 

C313-B White cotton heavier birds eye pique. 6oz. A good hefty weight. Too heavy for any garment with a collar
