Yarn Dyed Woven Fabrics
Yarn dyed and homespun woven fabrics are a bit different from our quilt shop cottons. If you look at a printed woven cotton, you'll notice that the print is perfect on one side and has been printed onto a base fabric. The back side is not printed. Yarn dyed and homespun wovens have their design made while the fabric is being woven. Some will look almost identical on both sides and on others you'll be able to see the actual weaving process on the inside. You'll notice little slubs and what look like flaws in the fabric with many of these fabrics. This is part of the weaving process and to be expected as part of the character of the fabric. They tend to have a soft hand, a gentle drape and have a relaxed, comfortable look in a finished garment. You'll find yarn dyes and homespun wovens in checks, stripes, solids, plaids and our newest Daisy collection. Do note that while plaids are lovely, getting a perfect match across buttons, zippers, and sides of skirts is very tricky.
